“Do not leave for eternity what you can do now.”

Professor DeRose

You have no idea how often I hear “I wish I could have more time to practise meditation with you, but I have no time”. If this resonates with you, then reading this short article could help, as I explore how you can make the most of your time, with spare time left for you to practise.

We all have the same 24 hours every day, to use as best as we can, but some people seem to be more efficient at it and achieve much more in that time frame compared to others. We all know someone, who runs a business, takes care of the children, exercises, and still finds time for creative work and activities related to their well-being. How do they do it, what is their secret?

Watching an interview with Dr. Ken Atchity (writer and movie producer), he said that “time is all we have”, and we must manage it wisely to succeed in achieving our goals.

In other words, as I like to say, ‘time we have, everything else is a matter of priority’. This concept helps me a great deal in managing my time, as it’s a reminder of “what is my priority in life?” Therefore, the key is to find the time to do what is in coherence with your priorities.

To help you to find time for what is ESSENTIAL in your life, the following exercise could help.  It seems simple, but for you to actually reap the benefits, it needs to be taken seriously and practised everyday. Take a piece of paper and write down three things you want to feel or achieve in your life. For example:

“I want to feel more vitality”

“I want to earn more money”

“I want to have more focus and clarity in my life”

“I want to learn how to dance”

 …

Then, next to each statement write down one action that will in some way bring you closer to achieving your desired goal. I recommend that these actions take no longer than 10 minutes of your time, especially during the first week of the trial. For example:

“I want to feel more vitality” – I WILL PREPARE A HEALTHY JUICE FOR MYSELF EVERY MORNING

“I want to earn more money” – I WILL START READING A RECOMMENDED BOOK ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INVESTMENT

“I want to have more focus and clarity in my life” – I WILL START MEDITATING USING A RECORDED CLASS FROM THE DEROSE MEDITATION PLATFORM EVERYDAY BEFORE SLEEPING

“I want to learn how to dance”. I WILL LEARN SOME NEW STEPS FROM A YOUTUBE VIDEO AND PRACTISE THEM FOR 10 MINUTES

After a week or so, you can start adding more than 10 minutes to each action, and in that way you can begin transforming your conditions into something more aligned with what you want to feel in life.

We are beings of habits, but to introduce new habits and remove old ones, change needs to take place slowly and patiently. It is easy to “kill” time with unnecessary things and things that you believe are pleasing and can help distract you from the real goals, but too much of this can actually hinder you and what you really want to achieve. Utilise this exercise to help you make the most of your time.

Big changes come from small actions, so value every new habit you introduce to your life, regardless of the time you dedicate to it at the moment. In the future, this new small habit will be part of your life and with it can bring great changes.

Based on this, if practising meditation is part of your goal, enrol today with DeRose Meditation Soho for your trial experience, and commence your new routine. It may seem challenging at the beginning, but trust me, if you stick with it your life won’t be the same again.
